WeAZ Museums!

Thank you to all participants, supporters, and volunteers at the Ninth Annual "Museums on the Mall: Statehood Day" on February 14th!

Arizona museums, cultural organizations and historical societies had a chance to network, while legislators and visitors learned more about the broad range of our unique state’s cultural institutions.

The Statehood Day program in the Capitol’s historic Senate Chamber, conducted by Betsy Bayless, featured Governor Napolitano reading the Statehood Day Proclamation to mark Arizona’s 96th birthday. She also noted the kickoff of AHC’s special initiative, Project Civil Discourse, and asked people to keep civil discourse principles in mind during 2008.

Chief Justice Ruth V. McGregor led the Pledge of Allegiance, and Senate President Tim Bee recognized the student winners of the annual Polly Rosenbaum Writing Contest were recognized for their work on this year’s topic, “How the Character of Arizona’s Youth Affects Arizona’s Future.” Representative Bob Robson, speaker for House Speaker Jim Weiers, presented the Polly Rosenbaum Award to long-time legislator Brenda Burns.

The morning advocacy session, led by Thomas H. Wilson, President of the Museum Association of Arizona, and Roger Lidman, Director of the Pueblo Grande Museum, gave an overview of federal and state issues for museums and covered tips for how to advocate effectively.
