How are they connected
to the river?

Moab's economy has been linked to river crossing; farming, ranching, and fruit growing; uranium mining, oil, and potash; and now recreational tourism. Courtesy of the photographer, Bruce Hucko.

Religion, culture, history, and the economy shape Upper Basin relationships with the river. To some the Colorado River is a boundary; to others it is a source for power generation, transportation, and recreation; to still others it is a commodity, along with scenery, that attracts tourists. Upper Basin communities that are close to the river reflect a diversity of physical and meaningful attachments to the river.
