2012 Humanities Awards

Please note the date for LWF Lecture and Humanities Awards has been changed to April 2012.

Humanities Awards.jpg Each year, the Arizona Humanities Council honors individuals, organizations, or businesses for their contribution and advancement of the humanities. This year, the following Awards will be presented at the annual Lorraine W. Frank Lecture in the Humanities in April, 2012.

The Dan Shilling Public Humanities Scholar Award recognizes a humanities scholar who has distinguished him/herself by enhancing public understanding of the role that the humanities play in transforming lives and strengthening communities. The award honors Dan Shilling's many years and contributions as AHC's executive director from March 1984 to December 2003. The Arizona Humanities Council Board established the award to mark Dan's legacy, reflect the esteem in which he is held, and recognize Dan's own respect for scholarship.

The Juliana Yoder Friend of the Humanities Award recognizes individuals, organizations or businesses that have made a lasting contribution to the cultural life of their communities through their active support of and involvement in promoting the humanities. The award recognizes the dedication and contribution of Juliana Yoder during her 21 years of service to the Arizona Humanities Council, including her service as Associate Director from 1995 to 2005 and then as Executive Director from 2005 to 2008.
