Arizona Opera, FLAGSTAFF. Opera dell'Arte, $1,000. AHC funds will support a series of five, one-hour lecture each highlighting a specific opera that will be presented during the Arizona Opera's 2010-2011 Season. Project Director: Laura Baldasano, 602/218-7325.
Gila County Historical Society, GLOBE. Key Ingredients at Gila County Historical Society, $1,500. AHC funds will support exhibit development and promotional expenses related to the tour of the Smithsonian's "Key Ingredients: America by Food" traveling exhibit beginning January 2011 through March 2011.
International Sonoran Desert Alliance, AJO. Key Ingredients at International Sonoran Desert Alliance, $1,500. AHC funds will support exhibit development and public programming related to the tour of the Smithsonian's "Key Ingredients: America by Food" traveling exhibit beginning December 2010 through January 2011.
Oracle Historical Society, ORACLE. Key Ingredients at the Oracle Historical Society, $1,500. AHC funds will support exhibit development and public programming related to the tour of the Smithsonian's "Key Ingredients: America by Food" traveling exhibit beginning March 2011 through May 2011.
Arizona Women's Hall of Fame, PHOENIX. Arizona Women's Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, $955. AHC funds will support promotional expenses related to the 2011 Arizona Women's Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in March, 2011.
Tohono O'odham Cultural Center and Museum, SELLS. Key Ingredients at the Tohono O'odham Cultural Center and Museum, $1,500. AHC funds will support exhibit development and public programming related to the tour of the Smithsonian's "Key Ingredients: America by Food" traveling exhibit beginning October 2010 through December 2010.
American Society for Environmental History, PHOENIX. Public Discussion on Immigration, Borderlands and the Environment, $1,000. AHC funds will support a panel discussion and public forum around immigration and U.S.-Mexico border relations in April 2011.Yuma County Library District, Main Branch, YUMA. Charles Bowden Lecture, $1,000. AHC funds will support a presentation by Charles Bowden to discuss the impact of border violence and the importance of cross-cultural understanding. The presentation is being held at the Yuma Main Library and will be offered in partnership with Arizona Western College.
Fort Apache Heritage Foundation, Inc., FORT APACHE. Key Ingredients at the Nohwike' Bagowa Museum, White Mountain Apache Tribe, Fort Apache $1,500. AHC funds will support exhibit development and public programming related to the tour of the Smithsonian's "Key Ingredients: America by Food" traveling exhibit beginning May 2011 through June 2011.
ASU Center for Film, Media, and Popular Culture, TEMPE. The Politics of 1950's American Film, $1,000. AHC funds will support film screenings and discussion dealing with political issues in 1950's American movies, including "Touch of Evil," "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," "On the Waterfront," and "Johnny Guitar." Programs will take place in public libraries in Anthem and Surprise in June 2011.
Arizona Council for the Social Studies, PHOENIX. Changing the Face of the Arizona Border, $1,000. AHC funds will support a workshop and photographic exhibit in November 2011 at ASU's Memorial Union, exploring the Arizona-Mexico border history and contemporary issues. The workshop will include presentations by humanities scholars, a facilitated book discussion of "The Devil's Highway," and a film screening and discussion of the documentary "Crossing Arizona." Workshops and exhibit will be free and open to the general public.
Arizona Writers for Justice, TEMPE. Arizona Writers for Justice: Reading Ethic Studies, $800. AHC funds will support a panel discussion exploring the controversial ban on ethnic studies in public schools in April 2011. Panel members include humanities faculty from ASU and award-winning Arizona authors.
