University of Arizona, School of Art, Tucson.
Dylan Miner, Just Seeds Visual Resistance, $1,000. AHC funds will support a public presentation at UofA's Joseph Gross Gallery, Tucson, by Dr. Dylan Miner. The presentation will explor the exhibit "Confronting the Capitalist Crisis." Project Director, Brooke Grucella, 520/621-7570.

ASU West, Department of Integrative Studies, Phoenix.
Abortion and Conscience, $900. AHC funds will support a day-long public conference at the ASU West Campus exploring the ethical, medical, and sociological dilemmas surrounding the practice of abortion in the modern age. Project Director, Maureen Sander-Staudt, 602/543-4561.

City of Goodyear Arts and Culture, Goodyear.
Hot Coffee! Timely Art Conversations, $1,000. A series of public presentations on the history of public art in Goodyear and throughout Arizona, and how public art is integrated into public spaces. Project Director, Dianne Cripe, 623/882-7809.

White Mountain Conservation League.
Aldo Leopold in the Southwest, $1,000. AHC funds will support a public lecture to the Round Valley Public Library, Springersville, in September 2009. The lecture will be the opening event of the "In the Footsteps of Leopold" conference that will be held in Nutrioso, Arizona, over the Labor Day weekend. Project Director, Russell Winn 928/339-4426.

ASU Museum of Anthropology, Tempe.
¡Que Vivan Los Muertos! Annual Día de los Muertos Festival Exhibit, $1,000. As part of the Arizona State Museum's 10th Annual Día de Los Muertos Festival Exhibit which opens in October 2009, AHC funds will support a free lecture and panel discussion lead by humanities scholars addressing the display of artwork and altars by Chicano artists and community members. Sharlot Hall Museum, Prescott.
Western History Symposium, $1,000. AHC funds will support two presenters at the Sixth Annual Western History Symposium, a free event at the Sharlot Hall Museum, Prescott. Project Director, Jody Drake, 928/445-3122.

NAU Humanities, Arts and Religion, Flagstaff.
Cline Lecture Series 2009: Filmmaker Ellen Spiro, $1,000. AHC funds will support the 2009 Cline Community Lecture in the Humanities featuring filmmaker Ellen Spiro. This free event is open to the general public, and is has been an important part of public programming at NAU since the mid-1980’s. Project Director, Curtis Hinsley, 928/523-6203.

Arizona State Library, Carnegie Center, Phoenix.
ONEBOOKAZ 2009, $1,000. A statewide program fostering a sense of community and promoting Arizona history through the shared experience of reading and discussing the same book during the month of April. AHC funds will be used to support book discussions and presentations by ONEBOOKAZ 2009 author Alberto Rios.. Project Director, Sarah Weber, 602/926-3368.

City of Flagstaff, Flagstaff.
Edgar Allan Poe Bicentennial Program, $400. This award will support the humanities content of a public program in October 2009 which includes a humanities interpretation of Poe’s writing in conjunction with Wendel’s composition of “The Pit and the Pendulum” performed by the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra. NAU Cline Library, Flagstaff.
Route 66 in Arizona: Don’t Forget Winona!, $1,000. This award will support a physical and digital exhibit beginning in July 2009 through August 2010 at the Northern Arizona University’s Cline Library. The exhibit will explore the relationship between Route 66 and the communities in Arizona through which it passes and its effect on those communities, residents, and business, including Native American communities. Opera dell’Arte, $1,000. A series of free, five one-hour public lectures each highlighting a specific opera that will be presented during the Arizona Opera’s 2009-2010 Season. Project Director, Laurie Lemley, 602/218-7341.

ASU West Department of Integrative Studies, Glendale.
Science and Faith: Darwin’s 200th Birthday, $1,000. A free, public lecture-debate that will discuss the nature of scientific explanation and its relationship to other kinds of knowledge. Project Director, Owen Anderson, 602/543-6027
