ASU Deer Valley Rock Art Center, Phoenix. Rock Art: Arizona and Beyond, $2,447. A five-lecture series that presents the history, new research, and preservation issues of rock art throughout the world, while placing Arizona's examples in an international context. Project Director: Mary Everett-Patriquin.
ASU West Department of Language, Cultures, and History, Phoenix. Mexican Americans of Litchfield Park Oral History Project, $6,000. Oral history collection from the former Mexican American residents of five migrant camps that existed in Litchfield Park from the 1920s to the 1970s, culminating in a community event for project participants. Project Director: Gloria H. Cuadraz.
Borderlands Theater, Tucson. Cultures in Contact: Discussion Series on Peoples of the Southwest and Mexico, $2,495. Two panel discussions and a presentation, all exploring the issues of gender, ethnicity, and identity articulated in the play Mixed Messages and the dance Coyolxauhqui. Project Director: Barclay Goldsmith.
Chamber Music PLUS, Southwest, Tucson. The Second Arizona Cultural Forum: Amadeus & Albert, $5,500. Lectures and panel discussions to accompany performances that explore and celebrate significant anniversaries of Mozart and Einstein. Project Director: Harry Clark.
Porter Mountain House Center for Creative Writing, Show Low. Poetry of the People: National Poetry Month 2006, $2,640. A presentation, panel discussion, readings, and workshop featuring Tohono O'odham linguist, poet, and scholar Ophelia Zepeda. Project Director: Ann Yarmal.
Protectors of Naats'iilid, Inc., Page. Winter Stories, $3,145. Tribal elders meet with interested participants at the Navajo Village Heritage Center's hogan, sharing Navajo culture, language, and oral histories that can only be discussed during the winter months. Project Director: Bonnie Brown
Tucson Botanical Gardens, Tucson. Tucson Botanical Gardens Heritage Plants Intergenerational Project, $3,000. An oral history project and resulting booklet on the uses of home garden plants by the local Hispanic community, and involving community elders working with high school special education students. Project Director: Juliet Niehaus.
UA Arizona State Museum, Tucson. Mexican Mask Exhibit Lecture Series, $2,965. A lecture series to accompany the exhibit Masks of Mexico: Santos, Diablos y Mas, to help elucidate the role of masks and costumed drama in Mexican culture. Project Director: Lisa Falk.
UA History Department, Tucson. Visions in the Dust Lecture Series, $2,515. A traveling lecture series to coincide with the publication of Picturing Arizona: The Photographic Record of the 1930s. Project Director: Katherine Morrissey.
West Valley Art Museum, Surprise. Arizona's Astounding Women: The Women They Were, $2,855. A lecture series in partnership with the Rio Institute for Senior Education on Arizona women who contributed to the arts and humanities. Project Director: Mike Bailey.
