Celebraciones de la Gente Festival

The Museum of Northern Arizona will integrate humanities content into the 12th annual Celebraciónes de la Gente Festival through lectures, discussions and presentations. The goal is to illuminate, explore and share humanities-based topics important to the Latino community in order to engage audiences and heighten appreciation for their history, philosophies, and life ways.

  • Day of the Dead Folklore & Traditions with Martin Espino storytelling presentation of the modern and historic Day of the Dead traditions. Free with Festival Admission
  • Live Art Traditions with Vangie Rodgriquez. Rodgriquez is facilitating a “live” community art piece centered on Dia de los Muertos. Visitors will be invited to contribute to the painting project while Rodgriquez leads an interpretive discussion of the work in progree. Free with Festival Admission
  • Modern-day Aztec Traditions with Lupe Tellez Espino discussion including In Tlanextli Tlacopan Aztec Fire Dancers. Visitors will gain an understanding of the historic symbolism behind Aztec dance, and how this dance tradition continues to thrive in Latino communities. Free with Festival Admission
