Founding Principal of The Phoenix Philanthropy Group

BOD - Kimball, LaurelLaurel Hanway Kimball, PhD, Founding Principal of The Phoenix Philanthropy Group, is a consultant who advises nonprofit organizations of all sizes on organizational structure and assessment, constituent relations, and comprehensive fundraising programs.  Her work is primarily with clients in higher education, arts and culture, and the environment.

Previously she built fundraising and constituent relations programs at Arizona State University where she was the founding director of the ASU Family Association and the first director of development and alumni relations at the College of Architecture and Environmental Design, (now part of the Herberger Institute of Design and the Arts) and later at Thunderbird School of Global Management where she was Associate Vice President of Individual Giving.

Laurel earned her PhD from ASU in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, a Masters in Teaching from Cornell University, and the Bachelor’s degree in English with an Art History minor from Carleton College.

She currently serves on Arizona Science Center’s Learning Committee and Arizona Forward’s Central Regional Council, chairs the Shepherd of the Hills UCC Church Endowment Committee, and is co-chairing a $15 million campaign for her Carleton College class reunion. She has held a number of community leadership positions over the years, including eight years on the Scottsdale School Board.

She brings to the AH Board her passion for the humanities, experience in initiating sustainable programs, and a love for Arizona’s beauty, history, and independent spirit.
